Calculating the exact amount of cement and sand is crucial for site engineers to prevent material wastage and ensure structural durability. This calculator uses the IS Code 2250:1981 standards for preparation and use of masonry mortars.
1. Recommended Thickness
- Ceiling: 6mm (Ratio 1:3)
- Internal Walls: 12mm - 15mm (Ratio 1:6)
- External Walls: 20mm (Ratio 1:4 with waterproofing)
2. Mortar Ratios
- Rich Mix (1:3): Used for repair works and ceiling.
- Standard (1:4): Best for external weather protection.
- Economy (1:6): Used for general internal finishing.
Pro Site Tip: Always perform a "Sieve Analysis" of sand on-site. As per MoRTH Section 1200, sand should be free from clay, silt, and organic impurities to prevent cracks in plaster.
