Rebar Technical Standards (IS 1786)
For any site engineer, calculating rebar weight accurately is vital for inventory management and billing. The standard formula used worldwide is W = D²/162, where 'D' is the diameter in millimetres.
| Diameter (mm) | Weight/Metre (kg) | Bars per Bundle |
|---|---|---|
| 8 mm | 0.395 | 10-12 |
| 10 mm | 0.617 | 7-8 |
| 12 mm | 0.888 | 5-6 |
| 16 mm | 1.580 | 3-4 |
Site Checklist for Reinforcement
- Check for the ISI Mark and Grade (Fe500, Fe500D, etc.) embossed on every bar.
- Ensure rebar is free from loose rust, oil, or mud before concrete pouring.
- Verify the Overlap Length as per the structural drawing (usually 50D).
